Street Guns' latest EP [Rockabilly Time] captures their timeless yet evolving rockabilly charm, as they continue to be at the forefront of Korea's rockabilly scene. The band's music takes listeners back to the 1950s America with its retro sounds and nostalgic vibes. Formed in 2013, Street Guns, evolving from a rockabilly band established in 2001, has been pivotal in establishing the rockabilly genre in Korea. They are also the masterminds behind the 'Retro Festival,' an event that celebrates old school culture like vinyl LPs, classic cars, tattoos, and barbershops. Furthermore, Street Guns made history as the first Asian band to win the global band competition [Hard Rock Rising] with their 'Korean-style rockabilly.'
The EP showcases the vibrant rockabilly lifestyle of the five members: Tiger, Roy, Chulsoo, Gyugyu, and Inseon. The titular track 'Rockabilly Time' humorously encapsulates the essence of the genre. The band's signature instrument, the upright bass, is celebrated in the lyrics, playfully highlighting their genuine experiences in the rockabilly scene.
Each member's personality shines through in this EP, with leader Tiger contributing tracks 1 and 5. Meanwhile, Roy composed track 2 'Battle Yourself,' Gyugyu composed track 3 'Time Goes By,' and Chulsoo composed track 4 'Innocent Youth.' These songs blend rockabilly with diverse musical influences, reflecting each member's narrative while upholding the genre's original vibe.
The EP title [Rockabilly Time] reflects how the band has always referred to 'rockabilly,' maintaining their own colloquial spelling that embodies their journey. The band's new songs, created in a different style than before, reaffirm the unwavering appeal of rockabilly. Street Guns continues to shape the moments of Korean rockabilly in 2024 and beyond, delivering a delightful guide to this unique genre
