LA POEM is pushing musical boundaries once again with their venture into easy listening, proving their limitless musical spectrum. While their previous work, '시·詩·POEM,' solidified their status as the 'vocal Avengers,' their latest release, 'MIRROR,' unveils new facets of their charm.
'MIRROR' is an album about a self trapped in a labyrinthine mirror room, blossoming flowers through endless challenges. The double title tracks, 'Mirror' and 'Rose,' showcase contrasting moods yet sensuously portray the longing for a goal, akin to a love story.
The title track 'Mirror' likens a perilous challenge to navigating a maze made of mirrors, depicting a man's precarious journey lost within. It features a deep house-influenced sophisticated beat, an addictive chorus, and the nuanced vocal variations of LA POEM. The songwriters—Seo Ji-eum, known as a 'hitmaker,' and the Norwegian composer team of Anders Nilsen, Iselin Solheim, and Andre Jensen, who previously collaborated on IVE’s hit 'After Like'—reunite to capture attention. Particularly, Seo Ji-eum uses a double entendre with '미로' (maze) and 'Mirror' to enhance LA POEM's storytelling.
The other title track, 'Rose,' captures the essence of enduring pain like thorns to achieve one's goals, featuring lethal lyrics and a sultry atmosphere. This alternative R&B track stands out with its restrained yet heavy strings, sharp electric guitar, and LA POEM’s exquisite harmony. K-pop producer and singer-songwriter Brother Su and Jina (Kim Jina), who previously worked on LA POEM’s 'Anchor' last year, reunite on 'Rose' to draw out the group's unique charm.
