Violinist JinJoo Cho's performance arrives like a story filled with the intense warmth of a blue flame.

An album of six short stories, filled with memories of passionate love, NOVELLA.

JinJoo Cho’s playing has been described as “passionate colors melted into coolness,” “fierce musical lines and dramatic expression,” and “explosive sound born from precise breathing.” Her performance shines particularly in programmatic music, and NOVELLA is an album that maximizes her ability to convey musical stories through the “texture of sound.”

As the album title suggests, each of the six pieces in NOVELLA captivates the listener like a short story. From Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen, which sings of the sorrow and joy of the Romani people, to de Falla’s Seven Spanish Folksongs, each with its own lyrics, and the well-known tale of love and ruin in Carmen Fantasy (Bizet/Waxman), the album is steeped in the rich aroma of Spain. Even the only sonata on the album, by Francis Poulenc, is directly inspired by the poetry of Spanish playwright and poet Federico García Lorca. This makes it impossible to overlook the distinctive Latin sensibility and color that permeates the album. Additionally, the Porgy and Bess suite by American composer Gershwin (arranged by Heifetz) and Chausson’s Poème capture some of the most beautiful moments in life.

The rich and diverse NOVELLA is JinJoo Cho’s fifth album, following her previous releases La Capricieuse (2020) and Saint-Saëns (2021), which pushed the boundaries of musical color experimentation. This album marks her ascent as a fully matured artist.

Now is the time to immerse yourself in the provocative “JinJoo Cho sound,” which moves from edgy to sweet, from flamboyant to elegant, embracing both extremes.
