Description
IU's 3rd Mini Album [REAL] A shy confession of an 18-year-old girl, "What can I do... I like you, Oppa..."
IU, who has established herself as a leading female solo artist in the pop music industry with her innate sensibility and vocal ability, returns with her third mini-album [REAL]. The album was co-produced by Jo Young-cheol, who has set trends in the music industry with hits like 'Abracadabra', 'Nagging', 'Irreversible', and Choi Kap-won, who has long understood IU's musical sensibilities. The album features contributions from some of the top names in the Korean music industry, including Yoon Sang, Kim Hyung-suk, Yoon Jong-shin, Choi Kap-won, Lee Min-soo, Shin Sa-dong Tiger, Kim Eana, Saint binary, Jeon Seung-woo, PJ, and Min Woong-sik.
This new album, true to its title [REAL], reflects IU's unadorned and natural self. The title track 'Good Day' is a collaboration between hitmaker composer Lee Min-soo and lyricist Kim Eana, once again combining their strengths for IU.
'Good Day' is a song with a scale reminiscent of a musical, featuring a lively melody and a dynamic sound based on string arrangements and funky brass rhythms, with violin, brass, guitar, and organ solos performed in exchange with IU. The lyrics of 'Good Day', depicting a girl's heartache for liking 'Oppa' but being too shy to confess, express the sweet yet poignant emotions of first love in a pure and honest manner. IU will showcase explosive vocal talent and the shy cuteness of an 18-year-old girl through 'Good Day', making the hearts of all 'Oppas' nationwide flutter.
The songs included in this album are of high quality, worthy of being title tracks. 'This Isn't Right', composed by Kim Hyung-suk, is IU's first attempt at a Shibuya-kei style electronic medium track, notable for its unique structure throughout the song.
Kim Hyung-suk, who has always highly regarded IU's emotive voice, has successfully highlighted IU's bright and sophisticated vocal ability through this song. 'The Night of the First Goodbye', by Yoon Jong-shin, portrays the chaotic and bewildered day of a girl after a breakup, with IU completing the feel of the song with her excellent song interpretation skills and emotion. Yoon Jong-shin praised IU as a coveted singer with musical sensibility and cleverness after working on this song.
'The Room Alone', a sensuously arranged and sophisticated melody by composer Jeon Seung-woo, allows one to experience IU's deeper voice and sophisticated vocals. Notably, 'The Room Alone' features lyrics co-written by IU herself, along with lyricist Choi Kap-won, coloring the entire song with the emotions of an 18-year-old girl. The poignant ballad 'Slowly Doing' is a collaboration between composers PJ and Min Woong-sik, with lyrics by Choi Kap-won. It's an impressive song based on IU's best-suited acoustic sound, with a lyrical melody and beautiful lyrics about slowly forgetting a loved one after a breakup, wishing to love a little more. 'Merry Christmas in Advance' by Shin Sa-dong Tiger is a confession song IU presents to her fans, with MBLAQ member Thunder, who has built a friendship with IU since her trainee days, contributing rap to the song. 'Merry Christmas in Advance' is completed as a love song that will beautifully color everyone's heart this winter, with IU's clear voice and a warm arrangement.
